A Big Bang for HARP

On Saturday 3rd November, some of our service users volunteered to support the Southend Roundtable Big Beach Bang at Shoebury East Beach. They volunteered their time to help get the event set up and packed down as part of HARP’s Meaningful Activities program, which aims to give people purpose and structure, and boost confidence and employability for the future.

Our team of service users worked hard and had a great time working together with community spirit and getting stuck in. One team member Darren, 46, told us “it’s great to get out and work together with the other guys to help this community event. We get treated really well and we enjoy mucking in and working as a team.”

It is through events like these that our service users are able to gain valuable experiences within the community and learn new skills.

Our Supported Housing Coordinator Matt Pettit is actively involved in the Meaningful Activities programme and told us “taking part in volunteering opportunities like this is a real boost for our residents. We had a great time helping out and to know that our efforts helped to put on a firework display for the people of Southend is very rewarding for all involved.”

Thank you to the Southend Round Table for a fantastic event and all our service users who did their bit towards its success.
