HARP's Beach Clean-Up Operation

Southend’s beaches have had some TLC from HARP recently after we encouraged our service users to get involved in our beach clean-up operation!

With the hot weather upon us thousands have been flocking to our local beaches for some summer fun, but the litter that remains after a busy day at the seaside has been causing upset to local residents. In response to the issue HARP have been working in partnership with Southend-on-Sea Borough Council and have been clearing rubbish from the beach in an attempt to keep Southend tidy.

HARP Project Worker, Prakash Shah, says that this is so much more than just a litter collection. He said “when the people we support get involved with opportunities like this we often see a real confidence boost, and many tell us that it is nice to feel part of their local community. Being homeless can be lonely and many can feel isolated by the troubles they are facing, but there is an amazing community in Southend and initiatives like this empower local homeless people to make a real difference to others in the town.”

HARP operate a diverse array of meaningful activities for local homeless people and have provided confidence boosting activities to 1,643 people over the last five years. Through the combination of meaningful activities, accommodation, and support, HARP are able to help people overcome homelessness for good.
