Spring Walk registration now open!

Following the recent bout of snow, the daffodils are finally beginning to appear, and we are asking people to keep those that are homeless in their thoughts as the weather brightens.

We are inviting people to help us end rough sleeping in Southend by taking part in our Prittle Brook Spring Walk fundraising event, which is taking place on Sunday 22nd April at 2pm. The 3.5 mile walk will begin at Priory Park and end with tea and biscuits at the Belfairs Park Woodland Centre, and registration is now open!

The recent weather has been more than challenging for most people with the hazardous driving conditions, train cancellations, and school closures, but for local homeless people, support during the recent severe weather was critical.

Lisa Walton, our Community Fundraiser said “the conditions over the last few weeks have been life-threatening for those that are rough sleeping, but the danger is not over as the weather improves. People are facing homelessness every day and our work is still just as important as we approach the spring.”

She continued “Our Prittle Brook Spring Walk is a great opportunity for people to show their ongoing support for HARP and the people we support, and we hope that people will join us as we take a pleasant stroll along the Prittle Brook. Last year we raised £5,000 to help local homeless people and we hope this year will be just as successful”.

Rebecca Ravinet and her family raised an impressive £315 last year and said “We chose to support HARP as it is a very worthwhile local charity for the homeless. It was nice to do the spring walk & raise money at the same time."

She continued "It was particularly enjoyable as we did it as a family, the weather was lovely & we raised lots of money to put towards this wonderful charity. We are looking forward to next year’s walk.”

HARP’s Spring Walk is suitable for even the littlest of legs and is pushchair friendly for those still to find their stride. Dogs are welcome to join in too as long as they are on leads, and all entrants will receive a free event t-shirt.
