Golf club’s fundraising events are a swinging success
Golfers at the Garon Park Golf Complex on Eastern Avenue, Southend, are stepping into 2018 with more than just their golfing achievements under their belts - they are starting the year off with a huge donation of £7383.89 to Southend’s Homeless Charity, HARP.
Last January the club named HARP as their ‘Charity of the Year’ and they have been holding fundraising events throughout 2017 to support the local charity that helps over 1,000 people facing homelessness every year.
Ladies Club Captain Debbie Wood said “the 2017 |Section Captains at Garon Park Golf have been proud to support HARP during their captaincy year, and are very pleased to have raised £7383.89 for such a worthwhile charity.“
HARP provide safe, warm accommodation for 174 people that might otherwise be sleeping rough each and every night, as well as over 60,000 meals a year, and they provide long-term solutions to help people in Southend recover from crisis, and back into independent living.
Lisa Walton, Community Fundraiser at HARP said “fundraising can be so much fun as Garon Park Golf Complex have shown over the last year. It means so much to those that are going through such a hard time to know that the local community are behind them, and we are thrilled to receive such a generous donation from the golf club which will help us continue to reach out to those most in need this winter.”
