HARP is a growing Southend-on-Sea based charity working to prevent homelessness and help vulnerable and socially excluded people to transform their lives. Each day our staff and volunteers work with individuals to tackle the underlying causes of homelessness, such as poor mental health or drug and alcohol dependency. From supporting people in crisis to helping them take the final steps towards independence and employment, we make a difference to over 1,000 lives every year.
We are looking for experienced and passionate people to join our relief worker bank to cover sickness, maternity and other absences at our 18-bed emergency accommodation, 20-bed single-gender hostel for women, and busy day centre.
All relief workers placed in a support worker capacity will work as part of a team, cover core assessment and key working duties and will need to have a good understanding of the issues involved in delivering effective support services to a range of homeless and vulnerable people.
Relief workers are casual workers who are called on as and when required and will need to be able to work flexibly and be willing to work shifts.
The ideal candidate will have:
The ability to manage difficult situations, and deal with them calmly, efficiently and effectively.
An empathy and understanding for homeless people, especially those who have complex needs.
The skills to work both on your own initiative and as part of a team, with the availability to work unsociable hours, including evenings, nights, weekends and Bank Holidays.
