The Fire Brigade Union get involved with our Sleep Out

The Fire Brigade Union are getting involved with our Really Big South Essex Sleep Out this weekend and are hoping the public will get behind them as they take to the streets of Southend on Saturday. They will later retreat to Leigh Fire Station where they will sleep out for the night.

Homelessness can and does affect people from all backgrounds, which is why we provide a diverse and tailored pathway to meet the varying needs of local homeless people. The Fire Brigade Union were invited to look around our Day Centre in York Road recently to give them a good idea of the support that is available and see how important fundraising is.

Union Treasurer and Firefighter, Mav Langdon, experienced a bout of homelessness in his youth so understands first hand just how hard it can be. He has since built a strong career in the Fire Service and said “there wasn’t anything like HARP when I was younger and I know how important this support will be for people facing homelessness. We are pleased to be able to raise awareness of the issue that affects so many people locally and hope that the money raised will go on to support rough sleepers to find safety away from the streets.”

Lisa Walton, HARP Community Fundraiser said “we are thrilled to have the Fire Brigade Union support our Sleep Out this year. Keeping the community safe is what they specialise in, but that is not restricted to people with homes. Our town’s rough sleepers are vulnerable and need a safe place to retreat to, and with support from our community we can continue to grow our service and provide more people a place to call home.”

If you would like to support the Fire Brigade Union, pop down to Southend High Street on Saturday, or text HOME43 £10 to 70070 to donate to HARP and make a difference today.
