Songs for Shelter charity gig rocks The Railway

Local student Tom Johnson, 19, raised over £330 for HARP by rocking the Railway pub on Clifftown Road in Southend.

Songs for Shelter was a music event held in the upstairs room at The Railway pub on the 6th of July, and organiser Tom was thrilled to drop the money raised to HARP this week after his successful charity gig.

Tom said “homelessness is on the rise in Southend, so I thought with the spare time I have I could do something to help. It doesn't take a lot to do your bit, we all got together and had a great night and made lots of money for HARP at the same time. If everybody did a little something it would make a big difference!"

The gig featured five local artists, and the proceeds will go to support local people taking steps towards overcoming homelessness. James Andrews, who attended the gig and helped out on the door, said “Tom has worked so hard on this and everyone had such a great time. He is a really good guy, I am pleased it was such a success.”
