HARP residents display at Flower Festival

A group of HARP residents, who have been working hard at a local allotment, helped to make a beautiful display from vegetables, herbs, plants and flowers that they have grown at this year’s Southend Flower Festival.

The group’s handiwork was on display in a special space at the Priory Museum allocated to charities and services in the local area. The HARP residents’ hard work was part of local project Motivation to Work, which aims to provide a platform for people from diverse backgrounds to work together to achieve positive outcomes for the community.

Our Service Operations Manager, Gary Turner, said: “We are very proud to be part of this partnership between Southend-on-Sea Borough Council and Essex Police. As a project, Motivation to Work helps to provide our residents with an opportunity to learn new skills, boost their confidence and get active; whilst also often giving back to and working in the local community. The residents clearly put a lot of hard work and enthusiasm into their display, which is fantastic to see.”

As well as providing a safe place for local homeless people at our Bradbury Day Centre on York Road where people can receive cooked breakfasts and lunches, use washing facilities and access support, we also house up to 174 residents. HARP help residents access support and training tailored to their own individual needs and ambitions so that they have the best possible chance of overcoming homelessness for good.
