What a weekend!

329 runners took part in a 24-hour relay race held at Westcliff Rugby Club this weekend in aid of HARP, Southend's Homeless Charity.

Solo runners and teams battled it out to see who could run the most laps of the 4 mile course around Cherry Orchard Country Park from 12pm Saturday, to 12pm Sunday, with many participants running right through the night.

Whilst some camped out and made the most of the atmosphere whilst running on a rota with their team mates throughout the 24-hour period, 74 runners went it alone and ran as much as they could through the day and night.

Jeff Bolton and Charley Jennings won the solo categories with Jeff running 24 laps and Charley completing a staggering 25 laps throughout the 24-hour period. The winning teams were Team Victor, Scrambled Legs, Team Larry, Wrong Direction, Too Stupid to Stop, Kingston Runners, LoSS Ladies and Odds & Ends.

Noel Kelleway from the HARP24 Committee said "what makes this a good event is that it is organised for runners, by runners. We know what runners want so we do our best to give it to them and they do the rest. All those taking part make HARP24 the unique and welcoming, brilliant event that it is. We couldn't run this event without our fantastic sponsors and thanks to their support we are able to raise money to help those less fortunate than ourselves."
