Members of community groups support local homeless people

At the weekend, we had a wonderful team of seven volunteers join our community fundraiser, Lisa Walton, at Tesco Extra in Southend to fundraise and raise awareness of HARP’s services.

Lisa said: “We love seeing the community come together to help local homeless people. This weekend we had parishioners from local churches and scouts, from 55th Leigh on Sea, as young as eleven help us raise a fantastic amount of money for our services, whilst informing the public of what we do. We would like to say a massive thank you to our team of volunteers and to the generous Tesco shoppers.”

The volunteers amazing efforts raised £573, which will help us to support local homeless people visiting our Bradbury Day Centre, as well as providing shelter, food, warmth and professional support to our 150 residents as they take steps towards turning their lives around.

The Bradbury Day Centre provides a safe and calm space for local homeless people, as well as a number of services, including a cooked breakfast, a hot lunch, the opportunity to shower and wash their clothes and the chance to talk to one of our trained team members.

Tina, parishioner at St. Peters Church in Eastwood, said that she chose to volunteer for HARP because she “wanted to offer support to a local charity that makes a real difference to people’s lives.”

Frank, parishioner at Our Lady of Lourdes in Leigh added: “I heard about HARP’s amazing work at the church, so wanted to volunteer. I’ll definitely be helping out again in the future.”
