Oracle's fundraising breaks business record for HARP!

May 31, 2016

Oracle Publications, the company behind Southend's monthly magazines 'Oracle-on-Sea' and 'Oracle Thorpe Bay' have raised an astounding £4,250 with 'Cooking-on-Sea', their innovative charity recipe book. The amount is a record raised in any one year for a business supporting HARP.

Comprised of recipes submitted from kitchens all over Southend, Oracle owner, Emma Wynne-Morgan, says the cookbook has proved a huge hit, with people buying copies for themselves, as well as gifts for friends and family.

Emma says: "Food is an emotive subject, and many people who responded to 'Cooking-on-Sea' said they felt getting together for a meal was a privilege that so many homeless people aren't fortunate enough to enjoy'.

'It's a simple pleasure, but for those who don't have a home, it's something that can often seem a million miles away from their current situation'.

Funded entirely by Oracle, and the generosity of their clients in supporting publication of the book, 'Cooking-on-Sea' presents 40 delicious recipes from local residents who've been cooking them in their own kitchens - sometimes for years - as firm family favourites.

Emma's efforts for the local community have been deservedly recognised, with Oracle Publications recently winning a prestigious gold award from Southend Business and Community Charter. Presented with the award by MP Sir David Amess, the accolade recognises Oracle's part in encouraging a thriving, vibrant local community, alongside other businesses also giving support through fundraising, volunteering, mentoring and other initiatives.

The last few copies of 'Cooking-on-Sea' are available from Oracle Publications at a minimum donation cost of £10. All proceeds go towards HARP's work in alleviating homelessness in single people in Southend-on-Sea.
