Monte Carlo or Bust!
Few people would choose to trust a journey of hundreds of miles to a fifteen-year-old car bought for less than £300, but that’s exactly what HARP’s Mitch Hutchens will be doing in an effort to raise money for us this coming June.
Departing Southend on the 2nd June, Mitch, along with his son Ben and family friend Malcolm Bodley, will embark on an epic 3-day journey on some of the continent’s most challenging and exciting roads to reach Monte Carlo.
Completing daily challenges set by the organisers of this ‘banger driving adventure’ along the way, the ‘Bodsky & Hutch’ team – named in tribute to the eponymous 70s TV show ‘Starsky & Hutch’ – are also aiming to attract sponsorship in aid of HARP.
Mitch explains: “Obviously we weren’t going to be lucky enough to find a Ford Gran Torino for £300, so we’ve bought the next best thing: a VW Passat estate with a modest mileage of 180,000”!
“We’re keen to involve the local community as much as possible, and are delighted that students from the motor trade course at South Essex College have offered to kick-start our fundraising efforts by spraying the car in an eye-catching style to fit in with our Starsky & Hutch theme”.
Community involvement is at the heart of everything HARP does in our efforts to end rough sleeping in Southend. ‘Monte Carlo or Bust’ offers a great opportunity to do your bit towards helping our vital work supporting some of the town’s most vulnerable people.
We’re sure lots of you will be interested in this fun and unique fundraising adventure – not only to support HARP - but also to help the team prepare for their journey. You can back the team by making a donation to be put towards the cost of the trip.
Alternatively, you may choose to get involved by sponsoring the team on a “per mile” basis. In this respect, the rally route distance will be a minimum of 775 miles. You can also make a donation using the Team's 'Just Giving' page - click here: www.justgiving.com/bodskyandhutch
Mitch, Ben and Malcolm will be keeping us updated and the Bodsky & Hutch team Facebook page can be found by clicking here.
