TO END STREET HOMELESSNESS
We are writing to our MPs to ask them to use their influence in Government to ensure no-one has to end up on the streets after the pandemic. Sign the letter and help create real, lasting change.
HOW HAS COVID AFFECTED
Fantastic work has been done to make sure that people rough sleeping in Southend were temporarily housed to get them off the streets during lockdown.
Southend-on-Sea Borough Council, with support from HARP and other local agencies, has worked tirelessly to make sure that no-one had to be on the street, and many have already moved in to longer term accommodation.
The emergency measures put in place during the pandemic have created the perfect opportunity to keep people off the streets. But the Emergency Funding provided by the Government will not last forever.
We need a Government commitment to long-term support and funding to end street homelessness or all the hard work done in Southend and across the country will be in vain.
It's Time is our campaign to end street homelessness. But for it to work, we need your help!
We believe a return to pre-Covid levels of street homelessness is unthinkable and we'll be writing to our local MP's to say so. Add your name to the letter to help increase our impact.
WHAT ARE YOU ASKING
MY MP TO DO?
We will be writing to our local Members of Parliament in Southend West and Rochford and Southend East,
Sir David Amess MP and Mr James Duddridge MP, asking them to support this campaign and to use their influence in central Government to create real, lasting change. Our requests include:
Publicly supporting our “It's Time ” campaign, highlighting the urgency of this situation.
Mentioning our “It's Time” campaign and your support for it in Parliament.
Writing to the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, or requesting an appointment regarding this issue.
Doing all you can to support innovative housing solutions in our area, including Housing First.
Demanding support for people with no recourse to public funds (NRPF) status.
Prioritising the needs of vulnerable people suffering through the housing crisis when considering future votes
We invite you to add your name to our letter!
By adding your name to this letter, you are showing your MP that overcoming local homelessness matters to you. The more names we can include, the more likely they are to listen and take action as your representative in Parliament.
Will your name be counted?
By adding your name to the letter you are saying that street homelessness matters to you as a member of the Southend West or Rochford and Southend East constituency.
