Items we can't sell

We sell items in our charity shops to raise vital funds to support services for homeless people in the Southend area.

Unfortunately, for operational and health and safety reasons, there are certain items we are unable to sell. Please check this list before dropping off a donation or arranging a collection.

Children’s Equipment

• Car seats

• Prams, pushchairs, buggies

• Cots, carry cots, playpens, high chairs

• Cot mattresses

• Soft toys without CE label

Furniture & Housewares

• Gas appliances, Oil lamps

• Cigarette lighters and cigarette lighters refill canisters 

• Knives and scissors

• Used pillows (except pillow cases and mattress covers)

• Cushions, cushion covers and tailored furniture covers (unless fire label is attached)

• Candles without instructions

• Fireworks

Electrical Items

• Electric blankets

• Electric showers

• Sunbeds and tanning equipment 

• Waste disposal units

• Power tools without instructions

• Refrigeration - selected BEKO models

• Games consoles (unless they have been wiped of all content)

• Tumble dryers

• Washer dryers

• Washing machines

• Dishwashers

Weapons

• Knives

• Swords, sword sticks, crossbows

• Guns and ammunition (including replica guns, unless obviously toys)

Heating and Cooking

• Gas appliances (mains or bottled goods)

• Oil filled radiators (not supplied with a thermostat)

• Storage heaters (hardwired)

• Oil and Gas Range Cookers (e.g. Aga)  

• Ovens with glass doors

Sport & Safety Equipment

• Buoyancy aids, life jackets, inflatable toys for water

• Safety helmets- Riding hats, crash helmets, cycle helmets

• Safety harness of any sort

• Firefighting equipment 

Software, Hardware and Entertainment

Home recorded DVDs, videos and audio tapes
Home recorded computer games and software on recordable CDs and DVDs
Any obviously pirated material

Miscellaneous 

Personal appliances, such as shaver, foot spas etc. (unless in mint condition, sealed box)
Medication including vitamins
Perishable goods, food and drink
Prescription spectacles
Cleaning agents, solvents, adhesives
Items made from ivory
Duvets or pillows (unless in mint condition, sealed packaging)
Real fur or fur trimmed items
Petrol or diesel fuelled garden tools including lawn mowers, strimmers etc
